Description: It was originally created as an annual tax-free prize of 12 million pesetas to be awarded to Spanish composers. From 1996 onwards, however, it underwent a number of changes until it came to assume its present shape, whereby it is now awarded to any person or Spanish institution whose work constitutes a relevant and significant contribution to the enrichment of Spanish music.
