Rafael Aguirre Miñarro, from Spain, won the first prize in the 17th H.R.H. Princess Cristina International Guitar Competition sponsored by the Jacinto & Inocencio Guerrero Foundation.
The prize consists of:
- €10,000 in prize money plus
a studio recording, and presentation of a promotional CD, with the Radio Clásica service of Spain’s national radio station (Radio Nacional de España - RNE);
- A guitar made by Manuel Rodríguez e Hijos S.L.;
- Concert appearances in collaboration with various bodies;
- Diploma; and the
- Possibility of taking part in the forthcoming Michele Pittaluga Classical Guitar Competition (Concorso di Chitarra Classica) in Alessandria (Italy), with all travel and accommodation expenses paid while staying there to participate in the elimination rounds.
The second prize, consisting of:
- €5,000 in prize money; plus
- Concert appearances in collaboration with various bodies; and a
- Diploma
went to another Spanish contestant, Anabel Montesinos Aragón, who also obtained the prize for the best interpretation of Spanish music, comprising €1,500 and a diploma.
Goran Krivokapic, from Montenegro, obtained the third prize, consisting of
- €1,500;
- Concerts in collaboration with various bodies; and
- Diploma
A total of thirty-two participants took part in the Competition, which was held in Ajofrín (Toledo), the birthplace of the composer, Jacinto Guerrero. The reason for moving the competition venue from Madrid was the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Foundation.
The Jury was chaired by Antón García Abril, composer and member of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts, while Demetrio Ballesteros, Leo Brouwer, Antonio Gallego and Alberto Ponce acted as jurors.
